Combined Cycle
Combined Cycle
Goreway Station is designed to use clean natural gas in a high-efficiency combined cycle electricity production process. In this combined cycle process, the natural gas will fuel three combustion turbine generators which will produce about 2/3 of the plant’s electricity output. Exhaust heat produced by the combustion turbine generators is used to produce steam to generate additional power from a single steam turbine generator. By capturing and recycling this exhaust heat, Goreway Station will be 50 per cent more energy efficient than a typical coal- or oil-fired power station.

Fuel Type and Supply
Natural gas would be drawn from nearby supply pipelines and delivered to the Goreway site via a new underground pipeline.

Electricity
Electricity production from Goreway Station is to be sold into Ontario’s new, competitive wholesale electricity market. The station would be connected to existing overhead 230 kV transmission lines adjacent to Highway 407, south of the site, via an overhead transmission line.

Operations
Goreway Station is expected to operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and employ 35 people in total.
