Southdown Station in Mississauga, Ontario will be an 800 megawatt combined-cycle electric generation facility located on approximately 14 hectares of land on the east side of Winston Churchill Boulevard (759 - 797) between Royal Windsor Drive and Lakeshore Road West.
The Southdown Station design was specifically engineered for local environmental and community priorities. Using natural gas fuel and state-of-the-art pollution control equipment, this facility will produce power efficiently and quietly, with extremely low levels of air emissions. It has also been specially designed with advanced noise controls for quiet operation, as well as air-cooled condensers designed to keep water use as low as possible 95 per cent less than a typical coal-fired station. Once operational, Southdown Station and its twin facility, Goreway Station in Brampton, will be the cleanest facilities of their type anywhere in Canada.
