Air Quality Modeling
By using clean natural gas and a highly efficient combined electricity production process, greenhouse gas and other emissions will be substantially below those of current coal-fired generating stations.

The fuel system is designed to substantially reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Post-combustion processes will incorporate the latest in proven advances to ensure that NOx emissions rates are a fraction (less than 10 per cent) of the regulated requirements, and the lowest in the province.

Together, Southdown and Goreway Stations (a sister facility proposed for Brampton) will have the capability to produce more than 8 percent of Ontario’s electricity needs while emitting less than 1.0 per cent of the annual NOx and less than 0.05 per cent of the annual sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions allowed under Ontario’s newly proposed environmental regulations for existing coal- and oil-fired power plants.
